What's New/Changed in SIMON 7

The following is a list of items that have been changed, updated or added to SIMON version 7.0 from SIMON version 6.6.

GENERAL

  • The main reason for this update is to be compatible with the lastest version of Mac and Windows.

NON-BINARY GENDER

  • Options for a non-binary (other than M or F) have been added.

 

What Was New/Changed in SIMON 6.6

The following is a list of items that have been changed, updated or added to SIMON version 6.6 from SIMON version 6.5.

DATABASE & SECURITY

  • Updates have been made to the server and data to ensure further security and reliability.

IMPORTING DATA

  • Updated import file specifications for Importing My Parent Portal users. The Password is no longer included in the file.

MY PARENT PORTAL

  • Updated parent login procedure. Passwords are no longer provided by the school nor is login information sent in emails. Parents will create their own password at the My Parent Portal website.

RCM OPTIONS

  • A new option to allow teachers to view report cards from previous years has been added. For teachers to use this feature, you need to enable it in the SIMON Preferences.
  • A new option to have a teacher prompted to run the Missing Grades feature before submitting her grades for Principal Review has been added. For teachers to use this feature, you need to enable it in the SIMON Preferences.
  • A new option to have a line height automatically adjusted after a comment has been shrunk-to-fit has been added to close up some of the remaining white space. For teachers to use this feature, you need to enable it in the SIMON Preferences.
What Was New/Changed in SIMON 6.5

The following is a list of items that have been changed, updated or added to SIMON version 6 from SIMON version 5.

DATABASE & SECURITY

  • Completely updated database. Secure and reliable.
  • All data transfers are secure using https.
  • New login procedure. Each SIMON user is issued an account (their eMail address) and password.
  • Lost or forgotten password retrieval via eMail.

IMPORTING DATA

  • New import file specifications.

INTERFACE

  • New modern familiar look.
  • Streamlined interface for both RCM and SIMON.
  • SIMON is now integrated into RCM. There is no longer a separate download for SIMON.
  • The My Parent Portal feature is now included. If you choose to enable this feature, parents can login and view/print the report cards. If you are using the RCM Gradebook, parents can also login to see daily grades.

TEAM TEACHING

  • Simplified selection of team teachers.
  • Students can be selected by name, gender, grade level or all.
  • Default fields can be assigned to a team teacher.

SIMON

  • Faster startup times (we mean WAY FASTER!).
  • SIMON now loads only what it needs, when it needs it.
  • SIMON now keeps previous year's data and any previous versions of your report cards.
  • You can now set SIMON back to previous years and view report cards including the correct template of the report card as it was in the selected school year.
  • Simplified process when selecting areas on the report cards.
  • Comment Libraries are now edited right in SIMON. No need to edit a library in RCM.
  • You can now pre-fill areas on the report card with a desired grade ("NA" for example) if the teacher doesn't enter a grade.
  • Native Printing of Report Cards to PDF on Windows.
  • When printing, you can now select students by grade level (as well as schools and teachers).
  • Teacher's Custom Comments are now preserved from year to year. You do not need to import them from the previous year's archive.
